Program Notes
The projection of a silent film takes a wrong turn when the accompanying piano player starts a furious competition with a Romany fiddler. The enraged actors step out of the screen in protest, while the fiddler brings in reinforcements…
Matteo Bernardini, born in Turin in 1983, studied film in London and subsequently worked as an assistant in opera and cinema. He has made music videos, and his short Vampyre Compendium (2010) was presented out of competition at the Venice film festival, and earned the best actress prize for Oona Chaplin at the 2011 Flickers Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival. As a European brand ambassador for Microsoft’s Generation 7 campaign, he has made the short Eyes Wire Open: Portrait of a Generation, on young people and technology. He is now working on his first feature film. The Music Lovers establishes something of a record: a third of its total running time is dedicated to the end credits – but they are also fun.
