Program Notes |
Teis Syvsig is a professional sound mixer, but his passion for the German Expressionist cinema led him to make this 16mm debut film in tribute to “Lang, Murnau, and my fellow Dane Carl Th. Dreyer”. A story spanning 7 years is concentrated into 11 minutes. A greedy wife forces her love-besotted suitor to commit himself to the pursuit of alchemy and the eternal quest to create gold. But evil tends to turn back upon its perpetrators… The spare chiaroscuro of Dreyer is contrasted with the more dramatic lighting shocks of Expressionism. David Robinson
