Program Notes |
In Your Dreams is the epitome of a Wisconsin Bioscope film: short, silent, shot with a 35mm hand-cranked camera, developed and printed by hand, and closely modeled on films from before the First World War. In this case, the models were the nearly identical Rêve et Réalité (Pathé Frères) and Let Me Dream Again (George Albert Smith), two scandalous films from 1900 that expose the illicit desire hidden in a man’s unconscious mind. Because it was shot in the post-third-wave-feminist year of 2008, In Your Dreams also includes the woman’s sexual fantasies. Then it proceeds to reveal the fantasy of the fantasies! – DAN FULLER |
