Program Notes |
Because coloring motion picture film by hand is so tedious, the Wisconsin Bioscope Company only uses color for short sequences that require a very spectacular effect. For Dogma, the set, lighting, costumes, and action were all designed so that the fire effect could be achieved quickly and easily. The aim was to provide the colorists with a clearly-defined, high-contrast area to paint. In this way, Dogma is as completely driven by its special effects as this summer’s Transformers movie or Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland – although on a more modest budget.
