Try this: Gerard D’Orville, a famous opera player, is seduced by adventuress Belle Borden, much to the dismay of her fiancé, the sinister Dr. Von Gahl, whose hypnotic powers are used to deprive the singer of his beautiful voice. D’Orville leaves for Europe in the attempt to find a cure to his illness, with no result. Reduced to abject poverty, the man finds the most unlikely kind of help from a friend, a former alcoholic now turned into a wealthy entrepreneur.
